Faith

Chapter One

The religious say they have faith. Is this faith rational, and is it good?

1 Faith. What is 'Faith'?

2 Is it the belief in things unseen but nonetheless known to be true as claim the Religious?

3 But they know not, rather they pretend to know.

They speak as if they have authority where they have naught, and they lead many unto terrible guilt and self-deception.

4 Who are they that they speak on behalf of [1] God; are they angels, are they God's friends?

But lo! they have set themselves against God and know it not.

5 For he does not associate with hypocrites who pretend to know the truth. He does not favor those who write scriptures in His Name when He does not inspire them.

6 They say they have Faith. In what have they Faith?

7 But in mere words, in false myths, in stories writ of their own hands, in what is fictional and untrue, for they are verily of the Ignorant.

8 But they deceive their brethren, and they lead them unto the path of error, and they say, "We have converted them to the true religion!", but it is only lies.

9 Yet they persist in their error, yea, they are steadfast in their delusion, and they have deluded themselves and become fools. They are liars and deceivers, mythmakers and storytellers, but they believe they speak the truth. They know not what is right, but they repeatedly utter the word Righteous.

10 Who are they to call others blind when they themselves cannot see? For they are unknowing and darkened; they have no knowledge of the Truth. Therefore, they fear those who study nature, for they discover things that contradict their myths.
